HIMSS news: mHealth Professionals launch Community & European Symposium

BRUSSELS (15 January 2013) – On the evening of January 24th, mHealth professionals in Europe will gather in Brussels to launch mHIMSS Europe, and present the second annual mHealth symposium at eHealth week 2013. mHIMSS Europe, HIMSS new membership organisation, will gather healthcare professionals, mHealth application developers and industry stakeholders to establish best practices and advance the use of mobile applications and services in healthcare. Also high on the agenda for the January 24th gathering will be the plans for the 13-14 May mHealth Symposium to be held in Dublin, Ireland during eHealth Week 2013.

The mHIMSS Europe Community will extend far beyond the annual mHealth Symposium as Rainer Herzog, Director of mHIMSS Europe, plans to lead community events that will take place throughout the year. “We will be launching online events, mHealth app showcases, developer’s forums, white papers and unique membership initiatives. These mHealth related activities and events will highlight the way forward and promise of mHealth in both traditional and non-traditional healthcare settings.”

Karina Tellinger, Chair of the mHIMSS taskforce and a HIMSS Europe Governing Council member stated “Both the establishment of the mHIMSS Europe Community and the second annual mHealth Symposium is a big step forward for pan-European cooperation on mHealth. mHealth is a fast expanding area and it is our intent to gather the European Community, showcase mHealth excellence, and contribute to the implementation of mHealth across Europe. Participation is completely free to HIMSS Members.”
